Two dead, 10 injured in Lagos auto crash
TWO people were feared killed, while many others were injured in an accident involving a commuter bus, popularly known as danfo, and a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus at Maryland Bus Stop, Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday.
When Saturday Tribune got to the scene, sympathisers were seen pulling out an unconscious female passenger from the bus, marked: KRD 583 XC, before the arrival of officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
A witness said that the accident was as a result of speeding on the part of the driver of the commercial bus.
A LASTMA official, who pleaded anonymity, also said that the commercial bus was speeding, while it rammed into the stationary BRT bus bearing number “109,” which was standing on the lane, and which was about to be towed away.
According to him, about two passengers were killed, while many others were injured.
He advised motorists to limit their speed to avoid such incidents.
The injured, numbering about 10, were rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for medical attention on the orders of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.
Governor Aregbesola had left Ikeja and was on his way to Osogbo, Osun State, when his convoy came upon the accident scene.
The governor, who came down from his vehicle, led security men and other officials in the convoy to pull out those trapped in the vehicles which were involved in the accident.
Aregbesola then ordered that the victims be taken to the hospital in the ambulance and another vehicle in the convoy.
The governor led the movement to the hospital, where he pleaded with the personnel to give immediate attention to the victims.
