“I would have joined Arsenal for free” – Ozil
Mesut Ozil has claimed that he would have moved to Arsenal for free, because of the trust and respect Arsene Wenger showed him.
The former Real Madrid playmaker joined the Gunners in a record-breaking £42.5million deal, on transfer deadline day and revealed that Wenger called him and they had a conversation in German on that day, which convinced him to make the move.
“In some way, that conversation flicked a switch in me and made me realise what I had lost at Madrid – transparency, trust, respect, Ozil told Die Welt.
“He told me exactly how he saw me, how he wanted to use me and what he expected of me.”
“I would have even joined Arsenal for free.”
The 24-year-old is likely to make his debut for Arsenal on Saturday, but he has his eyes on the bigger prize.
“We will do everything we can to get as far as possible in all competitions,’ he said. ‘I learned that at Real.
“I don’t go into any competition say: The target is the semi-final or the final. When I play, I want to win.
