Lamborghini Celebrate 50th Anniversary, Launch $3.9Million Supercar (PHOTOS)

On Monday, Lamborghini introduced its newest supercar, the Veneno, and effectively pushed Bugatti and McLaren out of the way, taking the stage as the most expensive sports car ever produced.

The Veneno boasts a 750HP 6.5-liter, V-12 engine coupled with a seven-speed automated manual transmission, and all-wheel drive — the bones that take this machine from zero to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and push it to a maximum speed of nearly 220 mph.

Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s CEO, said that the Veneno is the “fastest, most powerful road Lamborghini we’ve ever built.”

Lamborghini fans will immediately recognize the car as one of their own, but its unique rear fins and spoiler (also designed for maximum stability during high-speed runs) sets it apart from the crowd. The car’s front end was designed for optimum airflow, pushing the vehicle downward as it accelerates.

The outer skin and chassis are created from carbon fiber-reinforced materials, while the interior also has surfaces, including the seats, designed with specialty lightweight materials.

Named after a fighting bull that gored a matador to death in 1914, the Veneno is definitely an intimidating machine that makes a powerful statement — get out of my way.

Its design is wholly based on Lamborghini’s Aventador LP700-4, and while it shares general design aspects with the Aventador, the Veneno’s engine received enlarged intake paths, thermodynamics optimized for performance, a higher rpm capability, and an exhaust system with a lower back pressure to achieve the 750HP. The new design is also 275 pounds lighter than the Aventador — another huge factor in attaining its staggering performance.

Unfortunately, only three cars will be sold (one for every color on the Italian flag) and each of them has already been spoken for.
